About the Museum:
Welcome to the Sam Waller Museum. Our Museum is a portal to the past. Enter and experience the rich history of The Pas and marvel at the eclectic curiosities collected by our founder, Mr. Sam Waller. If you are in The Pas, we encourage you to drop in and explore our exhibits and services. For those of you who cannot visit in person, please enjoy our Museum through our website.
With a variety of temporary exhibits on display throughout the year, there is always something new to see at the Sam Waller Museum. Hosting five to six temporary exhibits annually, our Susan MacCharles Gallery is the place in The Pas to see museum and visual arts displays. We host an annual local art show, student art show, in-house museum exhibits, and a variety of traveling exhibits from museums in other parts of the province and the country. We also partner with The Pas Arts Council to bring a stunning range of visual arts exhibits to the community.
The permanent exhibits in the Main Gallery interpret the rich history of The Pas and area. Beginning with the geological formations of the region through to First Nations history, the fur trade, Métis history, the mission period, and into the industrial age of the last century, the exhibits describe a diverse and fascinating community. Recent history has included the steamboat era, agriculture, mining, the railway, aviation, lumbering, fishing, trapping, and local businesses. Our exhibits also highlight some of the many community events held through the years, most notably the Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival.
"Sam's Gallery", our version of Sam's "Little Northern Museum", features many of the eclectic curiosities and collectibles that made our founder's immense and quirky collection so interesting to visitors over the years. Don't miss our famous two-headed calf, the five pairs of dressed fleas, and a plethora of other unusual artifacts and specimens.
