Individual workshops can run from one to three hours. The Society has developed, in collaboration with the University of Manitoba Press, a comprehensive collection of biographies of noteworthy Manitobans of the18th, 19th and 20th centuries, from all walks of life, in our Manitoba Biographies Online. The collection is fully text-searchable on names of people, occupation, places, and events. The Society has also created a new online forum, Past Lane, that focuses on heritage conservation and maintenance. The Winnipeg Art Gallery has announced the appointment of Andrew Kear to the position of Associate Curator of Historical Art effective July 15, 2008. Andrew comes to the WAG from the Tom Thompson Art Gallery in Owen Sound, Ontario, where he held the position of Assistant Curator and Registrar. He holds a Master of Arts degrees in both Philosophy (University of Toronto) and Canadian Art History (Carleton University) as well as Bachelor degrees in both Education and Fine Art. 5 Day Workshop with Janet and Tim Kroeker - August 11–15, 2008. Canadian Heritage announced a new program: Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage. The program will increase opportunities, through festivals or other events and activities, for local artists and artisans to be involved in their community and for local groups to commemorate their local history and heritage. The Canadian Conservation Institute has discontinued its Exhibit Transportation Services as of April 1, 2008 due to operational requirements. CCI said they will do whatever they can to assist museums who deal with travelling exhibits. This would Include developing and holding workshops for exhibition staff on managing travelling exhibitions and service standards.
