Story

The magneto switchboard was the social and business media centre of every small community in Manitoba. Switchboards were introduced in 1881 and an operator used the jacks to connect calls between people from within the community and from other small privately owned and operated rural telephone companies. The switchboard was also the means by which people could reach the world beyond their community boundaries.
