Story
A surveyors chain was used to measure land as the prairies were settled. Surveyors divided the Prairies into acres, sections and townships using chains such as this one, making possible the determination of land claim boundaries.
A chain is the thickness of a wire coat hanger, and one hundred links represented 66 feet.
